For Nicole

Hi again, Nicole. A few more of the way we were. This is some back deck fun at our house with cousin Sarah (who once again, is (s)mothering someone :) Joel and Catherine.
Come to think of it, you were quite the mothering type too - always gravitating toward the babies of the family, of which there were many at any given time! You and Joel are standing guard over little cousin David. David is a dead giveaway with those tree trunk legs eh?
Ahem...at great risk to the glowing Mother's Day card I just got yesterday from son Mark - here is proof of the way Sarah used to play house and dolly with her brothers.
Oh man. I can't stop laughing at this one.

To Be So Rich!

What can I say? Few things leave me speechless. But this does...
Photography credit goes first to my eldest daughter, mom to three of these precious little people and secondly to my second born daughter who danced a jig to keep their attention and who is mom to the remaining two delightful people.
What the Bible says is true: BLESSED are you to see your children's children.

*sigh* ...is that like bragging??

Motherhood's Reward
She rocks another baby...
hums an age-old lullaby.
She hopes no one is watching
as with thanks, she starts to cry.

Remembering the time
when the babies were her own,
And her mother told her gently
too soon they would be grown.

Lots of bedtime stories,
skinned knees, and tears to dry,
Teddy bears, toy trucks and dolls
and kites up in the sky.

First days of school, first loves, first cars,
the proms, the wedding days,
Sand castles and snowball fights
and teaching them to pray.

Now, as she holds her grandchild
and gives thanks unto the Lord,
She knows to be a grandma
is motherhood's reward!

To mark Mother's Day 2009 I would like to say:
Thank you Creator Father God for life in the first place.
Thank you Jesus for Life in abundance and full indeed.
Thank you daughters for the gift of Grandmotherhood.
You have made me rich beyond compare.

The Incredibles from Grade 3/4!

Recently, I had the wonderful privilege of performing some of our school choir favourites at a beautiful church in downtown Hamilton with the grade 3/4 class.
We were guests of the Hamilton Duet Club - the oldest established ladies choir in Canada.
They administer a few scholarship funds to award to groups who promote the joy and love for singing. I think the students of CCS fit that bill to a perfect T and then some!
I am so very proud of them all. They give me so much joy in my work, I'm afraid I will never be able to retire from my "job" there.
May the Giver of every voice and breath be praised!
Here are four of my favourite videos - taken by the one and only inimitable Miss J!
Thanks so much friend, for capturing this moment for us and affording us the luxury of many repeat performances.

It's time!

A Spray of Spring flowers for a very special Lady Love of ours!
It's always about TIME isn't it?
That infernal four letter word. At once friend, then foe. Eluding us, escaping us, relentlessly ticking away. Where does it go? Why does it fly?
But enough of this!
The first day of spring has long since passed us by and this blog has just now got its much needed face-lift for the new season. My apologies for making you wait this interminable stretch for the necessary adjustments and for new news. New old news, that is ;)
I am presently engaged in scanning a delectable stock of family photos into my computer library to carry on with the mission 'manifesto' of this blog - my family's attempt to re-connect with our long lost grand-daughter, niece and cousin Nicole Kristine Pts.

Hello again Nicole. Among the photo ops, you will find one of your Aunt Pauline with her arm around the birthday girl - her mom, my mom, granny to 33 and great-granny to ten. And just above this text is your cousin Mark (who is also 23) with his little niece Rachel Yvonne. Amy named her first daughter after your mom....a great choice it turns out, she's got the trademark elfin like looks and wily personality!
Your grandma turned 70 yesterday. She hosted us all for breakfast - a lovely routine chaos we have grown comfortable with, perhaps even endeared to - much like your mom once was.
....soon you will have a birthday yourself.
On April 21rst, you will become twenty-three years of age.
Oh man - there's the taunting 'tempus fugit' notion again - years flashing by in slow motion. ??
Who can explain these things?
Congratulations niece, cousin and grand-daughter of ours; may the Lord bless your special day and your life to come - in ways immeasurable!

Nicole Kristine Pts

Well, here we go...
Some random shots of the "way we were". From left to right: Nicole with her cousins Kristal, Sarah, Shannon and Lindsay. Nicole, did you know that you have 32 first cousins on your mom's side of the family? Thirty-two cousins ranging in age from one year (Uncle Mark's little fella) to 28 years of age (that would be Brent and Amy).
Do you remember getting together with the whole family for Gym Riot every January 1rst to celebrate Heather's birthday and the start of a new year? It is a tradition we have kept alive and well. In the photo above, I think you are probably going on twelve years of age - little did we know that this would be your last one with us.
Cottaging at Chesley is another tradition we have kept alive and well. No one would think to miss it! You are pictured here tagging on to cousin Mark who is tagged to Casey - all of whom are being chased by Joel.
Mad libs? Did I get that right? Cottage fun when you had enough sun.
Mark and Brittany and yourself - obviously expounding the marvelous details of life on holidays.
Here's an interesting photo comparison: Above, your mom and below, you. I think you may be around the same age, but I can't say for sure. You shared most features though - and the same tomboyish persona. Wiry and full of spunk - the both of you!
We don't recognize this cat - but it's almost bigger than you are in this photo. You loved animals and showed no fear regardless of size.

These are hard for me to see because Yvonne looks so frail and pale. I'd forgotten.
This was taken about ten days before your mom died. She is surrounded by her mom and siblings: Brothers Rick, Case and Mark, sisters Joanne, Cathy and Pauline with Mom in the middle! Together with your dad (Brian) and his parents (Jim & Julie), we shared a 24 hr. round the clock personal care rotation for three weeks December 16 into January 8, 1988.
For the first ten days, your mom was stationed in my family room where family, friends and health care worker's roamed freely. She was moved by ambulance to Grandma Vdk's living room (just down the road from us) to enable the lot of us to spend as much time as possible with her and each other in a more quiet and intimate setting.
You were always liberal with your kisses for your mommy and the rest of us. Too young to really understand what was going on - and unfortunately, your mom was too sick to write out her farewell to you for the later years - though we tried to encourage her to focus on that. I do have a wonderful video clip however, of an exchange between the two of you, before your mom was consigned to that hospital bed.
Since you are now even older than your mom was at the time of her death, perhaps you can appreciate how it took most of her strength and courage to accept that she wasn't going to live to see you grow up.
With the help of Grandpa Pts, you are showing mommy one of your very noisy presents...your mom was notorious for buying the noisiest (read annoying) birthday presents in the world for her nieces and nephews. I remember this particular toy having avenged ten-fold. I have video coverage of you and your multitude of cousins opening presents from Grandma
Vdk and it is sheer bedlam. LOL...a crazy chaos that your mom insisted on being part of!
We are eager for you to know who we are and what we're doing in this life, so I shall publish this post without further ado.
More to come, stay tuned!

Yvonne Alexandra (Vanderkruk) Pts

This is a portrait of my sister Yvonne.
She died at the age of 21 from a rare form of adrenal cancer.
On the family 'totem pole', she was sibling number five in a tight row of seven! We have many fond memories of growing up in that cozy (read: tiny) white house beside the creek.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Kristine Pts who was 2 and a half years old when her mother passed away.
At the age of twelve, Nicole was taken out of the country by her paternal grandparents - of whom she became ward shortly after Yvonne's death.
We have not seen or heard from her since.
This January will mark the twentieth anniversary of Yvonne's passing.
It is the express purpose of her family to use this blog to document our lives since that moment in time in the hopes of re-introducing ourselves to Nicole - our long lost grand-daughter, niece and cousin.
We think about you a lot Nicole and while we do not pretend to understand the circumstances of our present situation, we want you to know that you are loved and remembered.
We earnestly desire to meet you again in this life.
We still believe that nothing happens by chance and "we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose".
May He also bless this effort on our part to re-establish our relationship with you!
